Train Ethernet cables are physical carriers of network data. With the application of the Ethernet technology in the train communication network, cables in a train transmit much more data than ever and endure larger pressure. It is significant to conduct a rational and accurate health evaluation of train Ethernet cables. According to relevant international standards and characteristics of train Ethernet cables, the main performance indexes that can reflect their health status are selected. Based on the idea of a gradual punishment from the best to the worst, the health factor penalty algorithm is proposed. Through experiments that carried out in a real train, the proposed algorithm is used to conduct an evaluation, then health scores are given. Using a data transmission test to analyze the evaluation effect and the results indicate that the proposed algorithm can evaluate the health of train Ethernet cables rationally and accurately.
