What is a suborbital spacecraft? A suborbital spacecraft is launched beyond the threshold of space which, as we know, according to the FAI, is 100 km. During their brief excursion into space these vehicles provide between three to five minutes of microgravity before returning to Earth. Some vehicles, such as Blue Origin’s New Shepard, launch and land vertically, whereas others, such as Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo, are slung under motherships, launched in mid-air and land on a runway like an aircraft.
