Tail-sitter UAV is a special type of fixed-wing VTOL unmanned vehicle. Because its hovering and taking-off are greatly influenced by winds, there is great challenge to the trade-off between high-efficient aerodynamic configuration and robust control. This paper introduces the configuration design trade-off of a long endurance tail-sitter UAV with high aspect ratio wing and two propellers. The UAV has only two combined lift and cruise rotors to reduce the weight of the structure and improve the propulsion efficiency, which is the least propellers among all types of VTOL UAV. The prototype of the UAV has been built and conducted a lot of tests, and the test results show that the aerodynamic efficiency and control performance meet the expected design targets. The endurance can achieve more than 2 h with 5.5 kg total take-off weight.
