The development of renewable energies will lead to more electric vehicles (EVs) to eventually replace a part of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles in order to decarbonize the transport sector. This shift to electric vehicles necessitates anticipating potential storage requirements, as well as the services and users of vehicle batteries. This shift requires urgent restructuring of the transport sector to integrate electric vehicles as a core component of future energy systems. In this article, the development strategy of the electric vehicles is Morocco are outlined. The status of EVs and charging infrastructures in the country are reviewed. The paper addresses the challenges and proposes instructive recommendations to the Moroccan ecosystem towards a large-scale adoption of electric vehicles. To increase the development of electric mobility in Morocco, this research concludes that governmental policies for a local EV and battery industries in parallel with an organized installation of charging stations in public locations are required. This study also demonstrates the need of legislating charging requirements for electric vehicles to maximize their adoption in Morocco, with the objective of deploying electric vehicles on a wider scale.
