Abstract At present the calculation process to determine travel routes and times for railway operations, as well as to find available railway slots, is done manually by the network provider and is very time intensive. Consequently the network provider cannot react as flexible as necessary to short-term demand of slots. Therefore, the network provider is mainly interested in a reservation system allowing an easy and fast planning and marketing of free slots as well as in higher yields/revenues of slot assignments. In future the planning and booking of a railway slot must be supported by an information system which takes these aspects into consideration. In this paper we will present a concept for a future European railway slot management system for slot-marketing, allowing reduced processing times for the assignment of slots as well as providing demand oriented pricing strategies.
