Drought is a climatic condition characterized by a lack of precipitation. In the last few years, it is found that some areas of the state of Mizoram and its vicinity is facing scarcity of water. A study is conducted to see the present drought condition using simple techniques. The present study shows the frequency of drought by analyzing standardized precipitation index (SPI) of the Mizoram state. The rainfall data were taken from twenty-two rain gauge stations for almost thirty years (1986–2015). The study helps in understanding the importance of SPI and rainfall regarding climate change impacts and droughts which helps in the assessment and management aspects for the society.
