The sensitivity of the initial condition [epoch state] orbit determination program with respect to observation location and observed orbital sector is studied in this paper. A representation of the normalized position and velocity standard deviation of the epoch state is presented to provide visual inspection of the state estimate uncertainty. Applications of this analysis are applied to an orbit estimation problem, whereby the orbit of an artificial satellite around the Moon is estimated using range and range-rate measurements from observations located on the Earth’s surface. Position and velocity uncertainty measures are used to reveal the influence of the observation location and observed orbital sector.
