The introduction to the book “Greek Space Law” highlights Greece’s evolution from international and regional engagement to the establishment of a domestic space sector and legal framework. While Greece’s official entry into space activities is often attributed to the 2003 launch of Hellas Sat 2, its involvement in space policy and law dates back much earlier. In fact, beginning in the 1970s, Greece integrated key international space treaties into its national legal framework, became a member of significant international and regional (EU) organizations, and participated in collaborative space-related research and development programs. The 2000s marked a pivotal era, as Greece intensified its involvement in EU-led space initiatives, fostering deeper integration into European space endeavors. This period of increased activity culminated in the adoption of national space legislation and the creation of a dedicated space authority in the late 2010s, providing a solid institutional and legal foundation for domestic space operations and furthering its role in the global space sector.
