The gradual implementation of Free Route Airspace (FRA) concept in European Airspace arises complex problems with congestion and traffic bottlenecks in airspace sectors, resulting in systematic overload, stress and fatigue in work of air traffic controllers (ATCOs). Tactical potential conflict situations (PCS) resolution and capacity management are becoming increasingly acute problems in most of airspace sectors. In the paper we represent the Complex Dynamic Air Situation and Controller’s Emotions Recognition (DASCER) Algorithm in Free Route Airspace Environment. The DASCER algorithm consists of two main blocks – ATCO’s Face Expressions/Emotions Recognition and Integrated Traffic Analysis, which are working with the same engine – the adapted cascade regression-based face frontalization (CRFF) method. In case of Face Expressions/Emotions Recognition, the method is used to recognise potentially dangerous ATCO’s emotions and notify supervisor for further taking measures to assist the ATCO in difficult situation. In case of Integrated Traffic Analysis – the similar images recognition method is used to analyse DAS in airspace sector and reveal potentially conflicting aircraft (ACFT) constellations, which require immediate resolution, otherwise they result in DAS deterioration. The experiments with the DASCER algorithm included the DAS samples and series of traffic flows simulations, which were performed using the Eurocontrol Network Strategic Tool (NEST). Learning and testing samples for adapted cascade regression-based face frontalization were validated by the local experts-ATCOs, that confirmed high correlation between DAS, ACFT constellations and appropriate facial expressions and emotions of participants.
