Abstract In meeting its objective to assist its developing Member States in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, the IAEA conducts an extensive programme of work in nuclear power planning and implementation, including economic assessments to determine the appropriate role of nuclear energy within the national energy plan of developing Member States. Within this framework three major types of interdependent and closely related activities are carried out: (i) development of methodologies appropriate for energy, electricity and nuclear power planning in developing countries; (ii) the conduct of training courses on energy and nuclear power planning techniques, including use of methodologies developed by the Agency; and (iii) the carrying out of nuclear power planning studies in co-operation with requesting Member States.
