The introduction of electric drive systems in the vehicle segment of micromobility (pedelecs and cargo bikes in particular), has led to an expansion of the target group and the user profile. Pedelecs and especially cargo bikes as leisure vehicles, have turned into problem solvers for traffic problems in cities around the world. The political efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and land consumption caused by the transport sector are further accelerating this development. This leads to car-oriented users, who are used to having the support of ABS, ESP, brake booster and emergency brake systems, placing demands on these vehicles and their components that have so far only been fulfilled to a very limited extent. While skilled cyclists will be able to tackle the even distribution of braking power between the wheels for example, many people in the industry’s target group will struggle to do this in a safely manner.

In the following article, the concept of the electrohydraulic integral braking system will be explained and offered as a solution concept for this problem. The aim is to meet the expectations of car users in terms of safety, user comfort and maintenance cycles. The technical complexity will be reduced to a level appropriate to the vehicle category. The focus of the development will not be on the pedelec itself; the aim is rather to develop solutions that revive the category of light vehicles (L category), inspired by the success of pedelecs.
