Living in cities in modern times includes dealing with traffic congestion. In addition to difficulty in transportation, traffic congestion causes a lot of environmental pollution which has a huge impact on human health. Losing the majority of daily time in traffic congestion to/from work, school, malls, etc., leads to difficult and stressful daily life. To efficiently solve the traffic congestion problem, an intelligent traffic control system is designed. The use of traffic lights with flexible time duration significantly reduces traffic congestion. This paper is proposed a new solution for an intelligent control system for traffic lights using fuzzy logic. This solution, in addition to monitoring the number of vehicles at the intersection, the presence of pedestrians at the intersection also takes into account, which makes this paper different from others. Mamdani fuzzy interface system is used. Information on the number of vehicles is obtained by periodically identifying images from surveillance cameras. For detecting pedestrians’ at the place for waiting to cross the pedestrian crossing are used PIR (passive infrared) sensors. A simulation analysis of the proposed solution is performed and the results of this analysis are given in the paper.
