Demolition of old structures to construct new ones leads to a lot of waste generation. This waste is dumped in landfills, open sites or water bodies and is becoming a serious environmental issue. In the state of Goa itself, structures above 50 years are due for demolition and would generate a lot of waste. The construction and demolition (C&D) wastes are widely untapped resources available to the construction industry. It has a large potential to sustainably and economically provide raw materials for new constructions. In this paper, the authors have investigated and proposed, through tests, methods of recycling and re-using construction and demolition waste to make new constructions environment-friendly while being economical.
