Due to the use of single spool in conventional valves, it has only one control signal, and therefore only controls one variable. In IMCS, the additional DOF changes the system from SISO to MIMO, making it able to achieve multiple control objectives. To make the output velocity load-independent, the electronic pressure compensator (PC) is introduced, which increases the flexibility for motion control. Additionally, the individual velocity and pressure tracking loops are designed to decrease the outlet pressure loss. To address severe vibration due to a lack of damping, a hybrid control method combining dynamic pressure feedback with independent metering control is designed. Moreover, to accurately capture the optimal damping under a large range of operating conditions, a novel adaptive parameters online-tuning algorithm is established via the pole-zero map method. Finally, the results pertaining to different control parameters confirm the theoretical expectations via pole-zero locations in a mini excavator. By using the self-tuning dynamic pressure feedback controller, the vibrations are almost eliminated after only one overshoot for different operation conditions, and overshoots are also reduced with less decrease in the response time. Surprisingly, the energy-saving capability of IMCS is still not affected by the improvement of controllability.
