The digital twin of a surface ship is the virtual representation of its physical counterpart with bi-directional communication. To achieve operation support based on digital twins, such as early warning, prediction and path optimization, enabling technologies are needed. Enabling tools in such a context could serve as middle-ware and play an important role in combination with raw data and human factors to support advanced marine operations.
