The chapter presents the conceptual design, evaluation and selection of a blended wing body (BWB) and a carry-through wing box (CWB) aircraft, respectively. After a short introduction, the requirements and mission definition for the aircraft design are stated. The general design process is outlined, and an extensive section is dedicated to the multidisciplinary design process iterating between conceptual and structural design. The selection of the blended wing body (BWB) over the carry-through wing box (CWB) configuration is detailed in the last section, where the main characteristics of the two configurations are compared and the final choice of the BWB concept is motivated. The chapter is adapted with slight modifications from [10].
