Forces and moments, stresses and strains are measured with deformation transducers. This allows elementary important statements to be made on stress conditions, the acting operating loads and – in conjunction with kinematic quantities – on transfer functions. The chapter gives an overview of the function of the individual methods and their advantages and disadvantages. A large amount of space is devoted to strain gaugegauges, including signal conditioning and their application in various force and torque transducers. Numerous illustrations, schematic drawings and calculation examples illustrate the mode of operation, possible applications and application limits.
