The increased traffic leads to challenges such as the negative impact on the environment, the increased number of traffic accidents, the congestion in urban areas, etc. Traffic management is one of the main challenges facing cities today. The traditional traffic management system has proven ineffective in the circumstances of a growing number of vehicles in cities. It is necessary to develop appropriate traffic infrastructure management systems, including roads, intersections, pedestrian crossings, tunnels, traffic lights, etc. An adaptive traffic management system is key to solving these issues and achieving efficient urban mobility. In recent years, IoT technologies have provided several automated solutions for adaptive traffic management. IoT enables the development of solutions for efficient traffic management through automated monitoring, control, and management. This paper presents some possibilities for applying IoT technologies for adaptive traffic management and solving the mentioned problems. Besides, we highlight certain advantages and challenges of IoT technologies for solving traffic management problems.
