Safety of railway signalling systems is strongly related to reliability of on board train localization respect to protected points of the line. In particular, the so-called odometry is the system devoted to train localization along the line. Current systems like the Italian SCMT (Sistema Controllo Marcia Treno) implement localization as a filtered integration of measured wheel speed through fixed information points the so called “balise”. In recent systems, more complex data fusion of different sensors are implemented. For low density lines, there is a concrete interest to obtain a safe and precise localization from onboard sensors decreasing cost and complexity of the fixed infrastructure. Preliminary development and verification of this kind of systems can be performed using simulation tools that have to be specifically designed for HIL (Hardware In the Loop) testing of this kind of equipment. This work is mainly focused on the development of this kind of simulators. Some preliminary simulation results are introduced showing feasibility and utility of proposed solution.
