Currently, owing to rapid population growth, increased road traffic has become a common problem that affects not only everyday people but also emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police cars, and fire brigades. Minimizing the delay for emergency vehicles is of the utmost necessity at this time. This chapter suggested a smart traffic control system that consists of adding IoT chips to traffic signals to modify the timer settings. These chips will work according to the resultant vector of the headcount of vehicles in a particular path with the need for emergency vehicles in that path. The headcount of the vehicles is to be calculated with the help of digital image processing of the live camera feed. The emergency vehicles are to be tracked by connecting them with the GPS and updating their location to the chips so that emergency vehicles can be prioritized. The traffic lights are supposed to work on the network of roads with the dynamic allocation of weights for one particular node, i.e., between two consecutive traffic lights. The weight allocation of one particular node is to be updated globally on the network so that the tracking of all the nodes can be performed in real-time.
