Abstract At present, the main source of electric power of the modern autonomous power supply system of the railway car is a generator driven by the gear unit from the axle of the wheel-set. Rechargeable batteries are used as a backup and emergency power source in all types of passenger cars. At the same time, car power supply systems with tradition generators and batteries have significant disadvantages. Existing car batteries have capacity limitations due to their weight and dimensions. Storage batteries take a significant part of the under-body space. The purpose of this article is investigating the possibility of using lithium-ion batteries for the power supply of passenger cars. The application of lithium-ion batteries for the power supply of passenger cars was considered using the example of the lithium-ion modules of the Nissan Leaf electric vehicle, which now is the most popular in Ukraine and other countries of the world.
