As a highly integrated equipment system, it is of great significance to improve the reliability of airborne hardware for the function and safety of aircraft. With the increasing development of multi-electric aircraft and all-electric aircraft, the research and development of electric motors is indispensable. In the aspect of aeronautical motors, dual-redundancy permanent magnet synchronous motors (DR-PMSM) have been widely used in aviation field with high reliability requirements in order to reduce the probability of faults and to reduce the effect of faults. Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign technical literature of dual-redundancy permanent magnet synchronous motor, this paper summarizes the fault types and characteristics of dual-redundancy permanent magnet synchronous motor. And then, the measures to improve the reliability of dual-redundancy permanent magnet synchronous motor from two aspects of motor body configuration and control method are summarized. At last, the future development trend of this field and the new ideas of motor design are prospected.
