This paper explores vehicle routing optimization for energy efficiency in ITS, emphasizing platoon driving's potential to cut fuel use and emissions. It summarizes VRP's evolution, emphasizing fuel efficiency. A multi-objective model, considering energy, time windows, and platoon merging, is proposed to minimize fuel consumption. It factors in vehicle speed, loads, customer time windows, and platoon feasibility. Validation using genetic and particle swarm algorithms in MATLAB shows platoon routing can significantly cut fuel use and emissions, supporting ITS development.
