The wind speed in the airport runway was measured using a passive optical method based on a correlation analysis of turbulent distortions of images of distant observation objects. The optical path was organized in the area of the ground section of the glide path near the start of the runway. Against the background of a moderate crosswind, after the aircraft passed above the line of sight, the significant velocity changes, caused by the wake, were stably recorded using the passive optical meter. The results illustrate the practical possibility of using this method for instrumental indication of the presence or absence of wake vortex tracks over the airport. This information can be useful in assessing the safe intervals in the process of organizing departures and landings of aircrafts.
