An experimental study was carried out to understand the phenomena of the boiling flow of liquid nitrogen in vertical tubes with closed bottom by using the high speed motion analyser. The tubes in the experiment are 0.014 and 0.018 m in inner diameter, respectively, and both 1.0 m in length. The statistical method is employed to analyse the experimental data. The experiment focused on the study of the nitrogen Taylor bubble length and velocity at different positions along the tubes. The experimental results show that the mean rising velocity of the nitrogen Taylor bubble increases along the tube for two tubes. Near the tube exit, the nitrogen Taylor bubble rising velocity is almost constant. The mean nitrogen Taylor bubble lengths of D=0.014 m are longer than of D=0.018 m, which shows bubbles are easier to coalescence in the small tube. Standard deviation of the nitrogen Taylor bubble length increases with increasing x/D, which shows the nitrogen Taylor bubble length distribution is more inhomogeneous with increasing x/D. Standard deviation of the nitrogen Taylor bubble lengths of D=0.014 m are greater than of D=0.018 m. This shows the nitrogen Taylor bubble length range is greater for the small tube.
