A proof-of-concept study is reported that demonstrates the potential for cylinder head metal temperature control using liquid jets. Rig-based experiments have highlighted the potential benefits of actively controlled cooling jets. The rig-based work has been extended to a vehicle evaluation, and exhaust valve bridge temperature control has been demonstrated using a simple control strategy.
