Microcomputers and specially developed programs have now been installed at over twenty Royal Air Force front-line units to improve the management of ground support equipment. At these, most of the traditional engineering management aids have now been replaced by the computer, but the analysis of the maintenance data is extremely limited and still performed manually on selected types of equipment. Accordingly, the establishment of a dedicated Ground Support Equipment Maintenance Analysis Centre has been proposed. This paper outlines how the information from the station computers should be processed to provide comprehensive, fleet-based, equipment performance assessments. Furthermore, the potential, together with the possible cost benefits of the proposed system, is considered.
