The use of a hydrostatic drive system for a skid-steer loader can greatly improve the reliability and productivity over conventional belt drives. In order to obtain the maximum reliability and productivity, the engineer must consider several areas in applying a hydrostatic drive. This paper considers sizing of units, different types of systems for best cold weather starts, filtration, and available controls.
