This paper covers the scope and progress in deflection testing at The Timken Roller Bearing Company. As drive train designs were refined over the years to put more horsepower through lighter weight and less expensive packages, the test needed to be correspondingly refined to tell the complete deflection story. A history of the loading systems used to simulate field conditions over the years are covered along with other pertinent aspects of this test. A method of graphic presentation and typical analysis of the deflection data is presented.
