This SAE Recommended Practice provides test procedures, performance requirements, and guidelines for front cornering lamps intended for use on motor vehicles. Paragraph 2.2 reference documents are added for user information and to match current document practices of the committee. Paragraph 6.2 color requirement is revised to only allow white light. Yellow color light is generally no longer acceptable for road illumination devices. Section 7 guidelines are restructured and revised. In order to increase global harmonization of specifications, the mounting height upper limit of 760 mm recommended in the guidelines section was modified to 900 mm as measured to the apparent surface upper edge, permitting greater overlap to the requirements of UN-R48 Installation of Lighting and Light-Signalling Devices. Additional restrictions to the upper height limit relative to the lower beam are established. The lower limit is kept the same by referring to the height measured to the reference axis. The user is cautioned to design appropriately for their intended markets. Figure 1 format is revised to match the SAE Lighting Standards convention to show minimum and maximum candela values. No photometric requirement has been changed.
