A MATHEMATICAL MODEL HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AND PROGRAMMED on the digital computer to simulate vehicle dynamics when subjected to terrain inputs. The present version is a non-linear two-dimensional model in the longitudinal and vertical directions. Two degrees of freedom (pitch and bounce) are associated with the vehicle hull with an additional degree of freedom associated with each roadwheel station on one side of the vehicle. Comparison of computer results with recent field test data show that the mathematical model accurately simulates actual vehicle dynamics.
