Real time simulation for manufacturing decision support will soon become critical to the operation of FMS. On unmanned systems where many dissimilar parts are machined in random lot sizes to a high degree of precision, it is essential that the simulation model be continually updated by the system on the status of the product flowing through the system, as well as the status of equipment in the system. Real time simulation will be a critical element in future computer integrated manufacturing systems.
