Described are the reasons for consideration of recycling for deteriorated pavements, saliently economy, and itemized are some pavements suitable for recycling. Also discussed are the advantages of recycling, with emphasis upon enhancement of structural strength.Mentioned are three main categories of recycling: Hot recycling, cold recycling, and surface recycling, together with variations in the equipment and methods used in the latter category.Examples of successful recycling projects in Iowa, Oregon, and Minnesota are described, including the upgrading of shoulders on the Interstate system.The Federal Highway Administration's commitment to recycling is exemplified by reference to a Region 9 directive.
