NI-ROD* FC 55 Cored Wire is a recently developed flux-cored wire specifically designed for automatic welding of various grades of cast irons. With the product, high-quality joints can for the first time be achieved in cast irons at rapid production rates. The flux-cored wire presents designers with many opportunities to obtain substantial cost savings. The use of economical cast irons can now be expanded to include parts that previously had to be designed in forged or cast steel to gain the required weldability. This report presents a description of the new cored wire and describes several examples of its use in the automotive, farm machinery, and other industries.
