THE studies discussed here suggest that the power developed in a diesel is directly proportional to the heating value of the fuel and is independent of its cetane rating, volatility, chemical composition, and molecular structure. Both cetane and volatility, however, the authors say, have marked effects upon cold starting and light-load operation, when the ignition capacity of the cylinder is reduced.THE studies discussed here suggest that the power developed in a diesel is directly proportional to the heating value of the fuel and is independent of its cetane rating, volatility, chemical composition, and molecular structure.
