This is one person's view of the scope of motorsports engineering and how the education community and motorsports community must interact in the future. Some comment is made about changes that have occurred and about changes that will need to be made in the future. The author has a 25 year history of involvement with motorsports, automobile racing in particular, and nearly 20 years as an engineer and research associate in an educational institution working with aeronautical engineering students. Recent acquisition of a model car capable wind tunnel has resulted in the hobby and profession being combined.
