This paper presents in short the Embraer ERJ 145 regional jet family new tailcone conception, development, testing and certification. This development took advantage of an extensive use of integrated CAD/CAE/CAM tools together with virtual reality technology, yielding significant reduction on the product development cycle. A multidisciplinary vision of this development is presented focusing on coordination standpoints in terms of schedule, costs and resources definitions and technical standpoints in terms of market requirements, product engineering, safety, engineering analysis, design appraisal, product certification and production implementation.
