This paper describes the role of ICAO in aircraft accident investigation and prevention. It deals in detail with Annex 13, the Accident Investigation and Prevention (AIG) Divisional Meeting 1999, the Safety Oversight Programme and the Global Aviation Safety Plan. The paper reaffirms ICAO's commitment to aviation safety and stresses that full co-operation between States, airlines, manufacturers, international organizations and all other parties in the aviation industry is essential if we are to master the challenges ahead.
