ITT was introduced to the Taguchi Method of experimental design and analysis in mid 1983. This paper briefly summarizes our progress and achievements with this powerful technique, and offers an example of a successful application. The Photoreceptor project was the award winning case study presented at the Fourth Taguchi Symposium hosted by the American Supplier institute. The experiment design was unusual in the approach taken and the format used to resolve a long standing problem. The results of this experiment were dramatic, both from the standpoint of solving the problem (3555 process fallout eliminated) and the increased knowledge developed relative to a complex state of the art technology.
