The concept of Precision Cooling was used as a method to make considerable improvements especially in the HC emission quality of a modern spark ignition engine at moderate production costs. An existing cylinder head was modified to run the concept in an initial testing phase to find out the right design parameters.Based on that information and with extensive use of CAD and CFD, a new cylinder head was designed. Also new test bed procedures for warm up tests were developed to enable a better assessment of the “in vehicle” benefits.
