The effect on weldbond joint strength of varying adherends, adhesives and surface contamination was studied. High strength weldbonds were achieved with the different mill finish aluminum body sheet alloys and the adhesive types most commonly used today in vehicle manufacturing. Acceptable weldbond joint strengths also were achieved in the presence of forming lubricant concentrations that would not be expected to permit good adhesion.
