Time and cost constrains of today's engine designs support the substitution of classical testing by innovative simulation techniques. The early application of CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) guarantees high quality levels of the component even during prototyping. Reliability of new designs can only be achieved, if the real material's performance resulting from the process applied is considered. At the example of the optimization work of an aluminum cylinder head the importance of a close link between process simulation and performance simulation is demonstrated using an integrated approach of CAE methodologies for life time prediction of the component.
