These new Typhoon V-8 engines are lighter in weight and smaller in physical size than the units they replace. However, they produce more power and have superior durability characteristics. They have been designed to be manufactured in the most modern and efficient manner. This paper describes the design and development of the engine and outlines pertinent performance characteristics. It also includes a description of the exhaust emission control system and mentions the areas of basic engine design that were studied to minimize emissions.
