The paper discusses the Regular Grid Road Model (RGR), being the preferred road description of the tire simulation model FTire (Flexible Ring Tire Model, figure 1, figure 2, [1]).RGR models are an alternative to triangulations. They provide considerable and scalable reductions in file size, in memory demand, in file loading time, and in CPU time for evaluation. The contribution presents and discusses different file formats, the combination with curved road center-lines, a loss-less file compression technique, a dynamic patch-loading technique, export of curved center-lines for simultaneous use in driver models, as well as tools for generation, processing, and visualization of RGR files. As an outlook, an efficient and versatile new interface to non-rigid road models will be suggested, to promote development and use of soft soil models together with FTire.
