The Air Force has adopted the commercial airline's concept of on-condition maintenance. Application to transport aircraft type engines parallels the airline's experience. New generation, modular design, fighter engines have different manpower, facilities and equipment requirements. Engine diagnostics and automated trending and analysis have the potential to enhance maintenance under the on-condition concept. Long term impact of the concept will require continued monitoring and evaluation.
