While recognizing the need for considerable flexibility in the arrangements between airframe manufacturers and their customers for transition training of the latter's flight crews, this paper seeks to present a general guide to those having a responsibility in this area. It represents an effort to recognize, and to formulate, certain basic training tenets as they relate to transitioning of flight crews at the factory on new types of aircraft, and at the same time to distinguish carefully between the obligations of the manufacturer and those of the airline operators.
