This paper discusses the merit and character of an integrated reliability and maintainability program. The interdependence of the design attributes, reliability and maintainability, is cited with respect to assuring the availability of a quality product. Most of the discussion is directed toward management’s responsibility to plan for and effectively use the assets already available in the industry organization. The conclusion is that availability, and in turn operational effectiveness, can best be attained through an integrated reliability and maintainability effort.
