The parallel plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) has two power sources of engine and battery and its thermal management is essential due to the complex powertrain, caused by multiple heat sources, variable temperature, and multiple temperature intervals. In this work, An integrated thermal management system (TMS) is designed for the parallel PHEV which includes a high-temperature (HT) coolant circuit, medium temperature (MT) coolant circuit, low-temperature (LT) coolant circuit, refrigerant circuit, and battery coolant circuit. In this model, the logic threshold method is used to formulate the control strategy and the temperature of each key component is selected as a control parameter. The integrated TMS model is built by AMESIM software. The results show that the integrated TMS could provide satisfactory heat circumstances for the components including crew cabin, engine, motor and machine controller, voltage converter, and battery system. when its original temperature is pretty low or pretty high, the cabin temperature is balanced at 22°C through achieving a rapid warm-up within 300 s or faster-cooling procedure. For the battery system, the temperature of the battery is lower than 50°C under the extremely high-temperature condition and continuous working conditions. The difference between the maximum temperature between the single batteries is lower than 5°C which ensures the temperature consistency of the single battery.
