This paper presents a discussion of the potential of V/STOL transport aircraft for air cargo operations. The value of alternative V/STOL systems, each having a distinctive combination of airplane operating ground rules, route structure, and terminal location, is considered relative to freight market requirements, existent transit systems, airline profitability, and shipper cost/benefit. A significant dollar savings is shown to accrue from shipment via V/STOL aircargo. And the opportunities for private enterprise in aircraft operation and terminal design and construction are noted.
