The authors have reviewed the state-of-the-art with respect to the health effects of long term exposure to whole-body shock and vibration. After analyzing the epidemiological and data availability problems of conducting definitive research into the relationship between long-term exposure to shock and vibration and the health of truck drivers, they describe the requirements for a feasible, scientifically sound epidemiological research program that can be implemented incrementally.
